On May 20th Laeïla Adjovi, ArtsEverywhere’s first recipient of the Fay Chiang Fellowship in Artistic Journalism, will present her project The Roads of Yemoja. Set between Benin, Nigeria and Cuba, her exploration follows the rites of a West African Deity, Yemoja, from what was once called “the slave coast” to the largest island of the Caribbean sea. The Roads of Yemoja is a multidisciplinary project about African spirituality, cultural resistance, disseminated collective memory, and creolization.
