Performance and visual artist, independent curator, researcher and pedagogue. Co-director of the space for creation and radical pedagogy MATERIC.ORG and curator of MAR DE ISLAS performance encounter of the Caribbean. She holds an MA in Curatorial Studies and a PhD in Art History and Theory (University of Essex, UK). She lectures at the University of Puerto Rico and at the Escola Massana Arts and Design Centre in Barcelona. Her publications include the co-authorship of the chapter “Border Movement: Transnational Performance in Practice” (Routledge, 2021). Her artwork has been presented in Abya Yala and Europe, and discussed in several catalogues and books including Inconformes y disidentes, arte puertorriqueño en el siglo XXI (Isla Negra, 2023), Turned into Sterile Land (Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art, 2022), and Birthmark (catalogue Liberate Tate, 2015). Since 2015 she shares and creates art-life with Isil Sol Vil through a poetic philosophy of subversive love x extreme care.
Acknowledging our relations and our ‘being in the World’ as intersubjective and intercorporeal, my work explores the soma-politics of the encounter providing new spaces for negotiation to occur. Under the scope of ways of decolonising the body-geographies (de-linking from internal colonialism), I engage in forms of ‘aesthetic/sensorial activism’ exploring relational tensions, rites of passage, modes of resistance and belonging, the body’s legal implications, and patriarchy’s roles and masquerades.
