ArtsEverywhere invites writers and artists to submit proposals for visual art (photography, drawing, illustration, video) or narrative storytelling projects (articles, editorials, reflections, dispatches) that explore the concept of quarantine. The COVID-19 pandemic has already deeply disrupted our social and cultural structures and wrought unimaginable damage on the global economy. Mass lay-offs, cancelled events, and “shelter-in-place” orders have left artists and independent cultural operators gravely at risk in a time of increasing social insecurity.
Although travel restrictions have brought our international projects to a halt, ArtsEverywhere remains committed to actively building and maintaining partnerships that support artistic vibrancy throughout the global commons. In this spirit, we issue this Open Call for Submissions to provide a platform for creative expression and a space to find parallels and intersectionality within our varied experiences of social distancing and quarantine.
Project Details
Deadline: Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis.
We are accepting short and expanded projects. Short projects are timely articles ranging from 500-1,000 words that can be published within 1-2 weeks. Expanded Projects should range from 1,500-3,000 words and engage with the concept of quarantine through research, journalistic inquiry and/or multimedia. Expanded projects will be published online in the next quarter (April to June).
Multimedia projects, including visual arts, music, photography and videography, must conform to the parameters of ArtsEverywhere’s web platform. Interested artists can reach out to ArtsEverywhere’s editorial team with any questions concerning the scope or limitations of potential projects.
Guidelines for Project Proposals
Pitches should be no longer than 250 words for immediate projects and 500 words for more involved projects. ArtsEverywhere will offer a commissioning fee for all selected works; the amount will be negotiated by the artist and the editorial team.
Proposals should include a concise project description, relevant background information on the project themes, and examples of your work that draw parallels with the proposed project. Please note, ArtsEverywhere’s editorial staff will respond to selected pitches as time permits.
